Roger Ebert's list of great films

Artificial Intelligence: A.I. (2001):  This tried to be a lot darker than I was expecting.  I say tried because it has some pretty adult themes, but then their depictions of the futuristic society would be so ridiculous that it would immediately lose all credibility.  Weirdly, the most unrealistic part of this movie to me was that a giant corporation sent their new flagship prototype home with an employee after a rigorous selection and then seemed to wash their hands of it.  Literally no monitoring of any kind.  The movie's also way too long.

Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli Films

Overall thoughts after finishing all of the Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films.  Generally pretty good movies, if a bit light on content.  These are intentionally slow, ponderous films.  Grave of the Fireflies was a standout as an excellent and depressing film.  At the other end of the spectrum, I found the non-fantasy coming-of-age type films pretty boring and mostly pointless.  Porco Rosso and Pom Poko were mostly just weird.
